Have you ever noticed that no matter what grand idea Occupy comes up with, it’s always us that they ask to pay for it? The begging is unending and there are constant requests for money, for food, for everything they want or need including personal items like feminine hygiene products and even clothing.
Have you noticed how polite and conciliatory Occupy is when begging but how arrogant they are when lecturing us about the evils of our society and marching around disrupting our lives and our cities? Tell the truth; don’t you get just a tad tired of the hypocrisy? They expect the real 99% to support them while they trash our cities, condone crime and endanger our children. It’s almost schizophrenic.

Today, Occupy Toronto announced the grand opening of their new Occupy Library which is a tent in the park they occupy. The announcement was made with great pride and a not too subtle request for donations of books. I couldn’t help wondering about that. It seems tome that the purpose of a library is to pick up books, not drop them off but I could be wrong. I don’t go to the library, I like to buy and keep my books.
Occupy London desperately needs a generator apparently but would also appreciate some spare change. Any amount will help according to the tweets I saw. I gather they expect you to drop by with the change as it is somewhat difficult to mail it in and they certainly have no intention of coming over to pick it up from anyone.
Occupy groups all over North America and parts of Europe continue to stand as beggars so that they can play revolution and disrupt the lives of the very people they beg for financial support. It’s almost laughable or would be except for the social and political blight this protest has become. The vandalism and cost for increased police services alone totals in the millions of dollars.
Today again, Occupy makes the news for less than admirable revolutionary acts.

In Occupy STL (St. Louis) a woman has charged another protester with sexually molesting her in her tent at the Occupy camp. You wonder why any organization that has the track record of the Occupy protest movement wouldn’t have put some kind of measures in place to start protecting people in their camps but, of course, they haven’t. This is a movement so self-absorbed with its own righteousness that in New Orleans, Occupy was too busy with revolution to realize a man lay dead in his tent for two days before his body was discovered.
Self-absorbed and self-righteous are the two phrases that really define Occupy for me.
Their recent Declaration of Occupy which is little more than an ill-informed catalogue of accusations against corporations is the culminating example of it. In the document (which by the way, they are in need of more financial support in order to have it printed), they accuse corporations of everything from perpetuating inequality in the workplace to murdering prisoners; of covering up oil spills (that would be like trying to hide an earthquake) to holding students hostage with the high cost of education that require student loans. I guess nobody in Occupy realizes that about 75% of the cost of education is salaries to professors and unionized support staff but hey, those guys are on Occupy’s side so better to blame the corporations.

They accuse corporations of buying political influence but politely ignore the influence bought by big unions, union pension funds and groups that support Occupy itself like The Tides Movement and Rebuild The Dream.
It is a wonderous document that is so inaccurate it betrays a naïve lack of understanding of the causes of the problems our societies face. Indeed when they include accusations that corporations aren’t very nice to animals but overlook the abuse of children within their own movement, it betrays a lack of values. But like I said, it is a wonderous document and I'm sure hours of work went into it so why spoil the beauty of the thing with facts?
While it is long on accusation, tragically the Declaration of Occupy is etremely short on solutions; which makes it sort of like your teenager whining about not getting a new iPhone but not really having a valid reason why they should.
But then, the irony of it all is lost on Occupy and its small group of supporters. It is a revolution of the clueless.
If you're as fed up with all of this as the rest of the Real 99%, get involved and help end this Occupy farce. Don't retreat....RETWEET!

The OCCUPIERS put children in danger? Lol, I guess you didn't read about OPD waking up everyone INCLUDING CHILDREN at 5am in the morning to throw pepper spray projectiles at everyone. You obviously have not been to an Occupy movement, just read things about them online. Fucking go to one and then you tell me if they're self-righteous and self-absorbed, asshole. "The truth is on the side of the oppressed." You're obviously not oppressed.

ReplyDeleteI deplore threats or injury to any child, including what happened in the Occupy camp by police but I blame the parents as much as anyone. Only an idiot with no regard for the safety and well-being of their children would bring them to a situation that has the potential of becoming violent.
Unlike me, you only deplore what happened today but have no regard or concern what has happened to other children because of your movement. There is no justification for the harassing of children going to school on Tuesday by protesters and even less for using children as human shields. That's cowardice.
You need to get over yourself. You aren't oppressed. There are truly oppressed people in other parts of the world dying just to achieve the same freedom you take for granted and abuse here.
You and your kind need to stop painting yourselves as victims and do something other than vandalize our cities, break our laws and prance around in self-aggrandizement.
I've been to an occupy movement. The only thing that qualified as a Movement was all the bowel movements left on Olympic plaza.

While were on Communism. Show me one communist country in the history of this planet that has actually given a tinkers damn about such things as Workers Rights, Labour Laws, Housing and Creature Comforts, Free Speech, Personal Mobility, Privacy and the Enviroment
Take North Korea for example, a sparkling workers paradise of unheated homes. Places where apartments don't have windows, plumbing isn't connected to anything. Electricity exists at most a few hours a day. Water isn't treated and running in most places. Hospitals aren't sanitary and human life isn't valued.
But North Korea is such a tolerant place where genetic purity is maintained by forced abortion of mothers who become pregnant to non-North Korean fathers. Churches and religious freedoms only exist for visitors. LGBT life styles are not tolerated. Anything outside the norm is sent to brutal re-education camps. Labour is forced, the supply of food is strictly controlled to maximize starvation, lets face it, if the government doesn't like you, you don't eat. Currency is kept inflated to eliminate buying power and wages are low.
Government watches you at all times and Multiple independent agencies of the state watch each other. You and your family and friends could end up in camps or in prison for any reason or misunderstanding. The courts are kangaroo and jurisprudence does not exist.
Of course your fancy Iphones don't work in North Korea. Telephones are strictly regulated monitored and made unaffordable for the peasants. Phone books are a closely guarded secret of the state and the most phoning the average person would do is to report the subversive activities of their neighbors. Don't even think about internet access.
Somehow the begging of the poor brings you no sympathy but you don't seem to care that without money, no political message becomes legitimized. This is the how the system works. Any political candidate that you support got where they are because of monetary donations.
ReplyDeleteI can guarantee you that the people most contributing to the movement are people within the movement itself. The only people contributing to the people's library are people who actually go to the Occupy Camps and who are interested in the movement. The same people donating books will be the people who are borrowing books. And, of course, at libraries the idea is to take books out, but also to give books back. The people's library trusts people to return the books that have been taken. If this barter system didn't work, the people's library at Occupy Wall Street wouldn't have accumulated 5,000 books.
I have thrown away many uneeded books. I would have no problem in contributing to this library.
It is hypocritical for you to criticize the movement as being "clueless" but then criticize a part of the movement whose purpose it is to educate people! The fact of the matter is, is that you don't want people to be educated. You want the few people who are in charge, to stay in charge, and for the people below them that they exploit to REMAIN ignorant.
Of course the beauty of the Occupy movement is that there is no leader. It began because of a feeling of injustice that is being expressed in many ways, one of which is the raw expression of rage. It is a perfectly valid deep human emotion that you liken to children being angry at their parents for not giving them what they want. The fact is, this is not the dictatorship that is a parent/child relationship. If we lived in a dictatorship you would be right, but we live in a democracy and therefore, have a right to express rage and discontent with the instituions which opress the majority of us. I have a feeling that you don't feel oppressed and would like it to stay that way. I think you have a right not to feel oppressed, but more of us could feel that way with you maintaining your feeling of freedom.
The difference between corporations buying political influence and big unions, pension funding groups, and other for the rights of the people groups buying influence is this: the only lawful concern of corporations is making money. It doesn't matter how much they screw over people, the planet, and/or other businesses, their only concern is making money and by law! Unions protect worker's rights. Pensions protect people in their old age from becoming homeless. These kinds of groups, the groups which protect the rights of people (in this country that is for the people and by the people) are the kind of groups which the mass majority of people are interested in supporting.
You criticize the values of a movement whose purpose is supporting the rights and entitlements of people who are citizens in the greatest country in the world but support corporations who purpose is to make money at the expense of others. Where do your values lie?

I will give you my opinion of you: you are truly a bully and your opinions are toxic, but I wish the best for you and every one else in this country.
